| Tennessee sports. When I say Tennessee sports, you probably automatically think of football and the Volunteer program that has had so much success in the past two decades. You might also think about the NFL's Tennessee Titans, still football. I'm willing to bet that most of you, if not all of you don't think of basketball first. Well, maybe you should. This Saturday night college basketball's biggest game of the year is being played in the state, between two teams from the state. BSN #2 Memphis is hosting BSN #1 Tennessee. And if you're going by the national media polls, those ranks are the same only reversed. This game is HUGE and may determine if one of these teams falls out of getting a #1 seed in next month's NCAA tournament. I expect this game to be a hard fought, close, down to the wire contest with it being anyone's game to win. The winner of this game, in my opinion is the clear #1 team in the country and has a very deserving shot at earning the #1 overall seed for the tournament. Between them, both teams have a combined record of 50-2 this season. Both teams are averaging over 80 points a game and allowing less than 70 a game. Memphis is on a winning streak of 26 straight and the Volunteers of Tennessee have won their last 8. Going back to 2001, Memphis hasn't missed an NCAA tournament and hasn't won fewer than 22 games in any single season, winning 33 games each of the past two years. Tennessee has won at least 22 games in each of the past two years and made the tournament both times as well. This is serious basketball, and it's not being played in North Carolina, like one might think when you say #1 is playing #2. So when these teams face off this Saturday, think about this again, Tennessee sports...... |
