BSN'S JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
|
This weeks' winner comes from the NFL once again. The league
that "doesn't have an off season" anymore, doesn't seem to have
an off season for the players getting in trouble either. Sure, I
could pick Pac Man Jones this week, but he's a jackass every day
of the year. I decided to pick another repeat jackass, Tank
Johnson.
Tank Johnson recently served 2 months in jail for violation of
probation when his home was raided and he was discovered to
have dozens of illegal weapons last fall. When he was released
from jail last month, he was brought in for a meeting with Roger
Goodell, the NFL commissioner. At that meeting, Johnson was told
he would be suspended for the first 8 games of the season, but he
could participate with his Chicago Bears teammates during pre
season. He was also told if he illustrated "good behavior", his
suspension could be reduced to six games. Not a bad deal really.
The Bears agreed with the suspension of their player and
supported Tank and his recovery. Tank even called his suspension
an "opportunity for me to move forward." Move forward 15 miles
over the speed limit while impaired? Evidently that's the case. At
3:30 am this past Friday, Johnson was pulled over for going 40 in a
25 and was blood tested for alcohol impairment. Sure, we've all
gone 40 in a 25 and we've all had drinks. The difference here is
simple, most of us don't make over 500 grand a year and are on a
second chance from our league office, employer and life in
general. You would think that if the NFL suspension couldn't teach
him the lesson to straigten up, his time served in jail might? Not
Tank, he clearly still thinks he can do what he wants, when he
wants with no regard. Well, he'll pay the price, the Bears released
him today and he now sits without a team, has an 8 game
suspension hanging over his head (for the time being, the league
will meet with him again) and he forfeits over 1 million dollars he
would have been paid by the Bears! Hey buddy, if you're making
that kind of money and you've already been presented with the
trouble you have, go out, have your fun, but hire a driver dummy!
Tank Johnson is yet another example of an athlete with no regard
for any type of authority figure. I hope that his misfortunes will
teach others, but I'm pretty certain I won't have too much trouble
finding a BSN JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
