BSN'S JACKASS OF THE WEEK!

This week's winner is surprisingly a first time
recipient of the award. He's been a jackass for many
years and for many reasons, yet he's managed to
avoid winning, until now. I'm talking about Yankees
owner George Steinbrenner. The one thing I'll give
"The Boss" is he loves to win, and he will try to do so
at any cost. The problem with big George is that he
has very little patience, even with those folks that
have helped him win in the past. With the Yankees
down 2 games to none in the best of 5 ALDS and
facing elimination yesterday, Steinbrenner issued a
warning for his manager Joe Torre: "His job is on the
line, I think we're paying him a lot of money. He's the
highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think
we'd take him back if we don't win this series." I'm not
here to debate weather Torre should be retained or
not. I'm simply stating that Steinbrenner should NOT
have popped off at the mouth like he did. Torre has
led you to the playoffs every year since 1996 and won
4 World titles for you. He deserves some respect, but
most importantly, neither he, nor the team needs the
extra pressure. They already have their backs to the
wall and they know it, it's a veteran club who's been
there before, why would you add pressure? If you
feel that way about Torre, fine, but you should not
have gone public the way you did. I can't respect
"sending messages through the media". It's pathetic.
Sure, the Yanks won last night and may win tonight,
but they will STILL be facing elimination tomorrow.
Steinbrenner really needs to learn how to pipe down.
For his inexplicable lack of timing with his comments,
