Sean Miller Is A Jackass!

Our winner for this week came from the college ranks. In my opinion,
he cost his team a shot at the Sweet 16 and a huge upset victory over
an in state nemesis. I'm talking about Xavier head basketball coach
Sean Miller.
The back story to this is pretty cut and dry. Ohio State and Xavier are
in-state rivals. They hate eachother. For 23 years, Xavier has been
asking the Buckeyes to schedule them in basketball and Ohio State has
continued to deny the request. Well, due to first round victories for
both on Thursday afternoon, fate matched them up against eachother
for a second round game and a shot to go to the sweet 16. Ohio State's
coach, Thad Matta, used to coach Xavier before Ohio State plucked him
away in 2004. Another reason the schools despise one another. Ohio
State came into the tournament as a #1 seed and ranked #1 overall.
Xavier, came in as a #9 seed and unranked. With 2:54 left in the game,
Xavier had a comfortable 61-52 lead. With 9.3 seconds left, Ohio State
had cut that lead to 61-59, but Xavier rebounded an errant Ohio State
shot AND Buckeye center Greg Oden fouled out trying to sop the clock.
Xavier hit 1 of 2 free throws and had a 62-59 lead with 9.3 seconds left.
Ohio State rebounded the missed free throw and down by 3 had a shot
to tie the game and put it into overtime with a three pointer. However,
why give them that chance? Miller should have had his players FOUL
Ohio State and put them on the line. They would NEVER have had a shot
to hit a game tying 3. Had Miller done that, Ohio State would have had
to make their first free throw to go down by 2, then miss the second
free throw intentionally AND get the rebound AND put the ball back in
the hoop all before time expired. Oh, did I mention that Greg Oden, the
Buckeye's best rebounder had already FOULED out! The odds of ALL of
that stuff happening were a lot slimmer than what actually DID happen.
Miller elected not to foul and the Buckeye's brought the ball down the
court, put up a 3 and tied the game. The contest went to overtime as a
result of the shot and the Buckeye's of Ohio State went onto victory
and the sweet 16 as the Xavier Musketeers sat on the bench and
wondered what went wrong. I'll tell you what went wrong Xavier, your
coach screwed you! He didn't think, he didn't have the intelligence to
have you foul and in turn, he cost you a shot at everything. If I were the
Athletic Director at Xavier, Miller would have been fired before he got
back to the locker room.
For his lack of judgement and his poor coaching job in the final
seconds of regulation, Xavier basketball coach Sean Miller is the BSN
JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
