BSN'S JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
|
This week's winner is truly a jackass. He is guilty of
something for the second time in two years. Any
time you don't learn your lesson, you're a jackass!
This week I'm handing the award out to Indiana head
basketball coach Kelvin Sampson. During the
2005-2006 season, Sampson was the head coach at
Oklahoma and he was discovered to have made
dozens of illegal recruiting phone calls to potential
players. Due to this discovery, Sampson was given
a 1 year probationary period that ran until May 25,
2007. As he changed jobs, and became head coach
at Indiana for 2006-2007, the probation followed him.
Well, it just came out this week that Sampson made
hundreds of illegal phone calls during that
probationary period while being the head coach at
Indiana. Due to his actions, Indiana has lost a
scholarship over the next two years and Sampson
forfeits $500,000. Pretty steep prices, but definitely
appropriate for a repeat offender. How stupid can
he be? You get busted once, you get a brand new
job who takes a chance on you, while knowing you
have a probationary period slapped on you and you
DO IT AGAIN!? If I were the AD at Indiana I would
feel like he took me for a fool and I would fire him.
This is a ridiculous thing to have happen twice. You
do it once, you get caught and sanctioned and that
should be it. I'm setting aside the fact that all of this
is against NCAA recruiting rules in the first place!
Kelvin Sampson, for your repeat offense of
recruiting violations for the second time in as many
years, you are the BSN JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
