BSN'S JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
|
Normally the BSN Jackass of the week does something really stupid off the
field or ends up saying something really ignorant to the media. Neither was
the case this week. Although, that's not the only thing new about this week's
winner. It turns out that we have a trio of teammates that are going to share
the award. They are San Diego Chargers teammates Eric Parker, Drayton
Florence and Marlon McCree. What did they do to share the honor? Let's
start with Wide Receiver Eric Parker. Not only did he drop THREE crucial
passes yesterday in the divisional playoff game that if you win you're one
game away from the Super Bowl, but he made a CRUCIAL error on a punt
return. With the Chargers leading 14-10 late in the third quarter, the San
Diego defense just forced the Pats to punt the ball giving the Chargers all the
momentum....wait, not so fast. On the punt, Parker muffed the ball and instead
of just falling on it, he decided to try and pick it up and run for whatever yards
he could. How often does that work out? Not very often, and it didn't here.
Parker was hit while attempting to scoop the ball and lost it permanently, the
Pats ended up recovering the ball on the Chargers 31 and gained momentum.
YOU CAN NOT make such a bone headed mistake as that! For dropping THREE
passes and then fumbling away a HUGE punt, Eric Parker is JACKASS #1.
Let's move on to cornerback Drayton Florence. On the Patriots possession
after the enormous Parker blunder, the Pats defense held the Pats to -3 yards
and a 51 yard field goal attempt....that's not an easy kick....especially when the
Pats kicker is a rookie. But wait, on the third down, in which the Chargers
forced a Tom Brady Fumble, Drayton Florence decided to HEAD BUTT Pats
tight end Daniel Graham, soliciting a 15 yard personal foul and an automatic
Patriot first down. So now, instead of a 51 yard field goal attempt by a rookie
kicker, the Pats have fist down on the Chargers 19. The Chargers allowed 12
yards and stopped the Pats after that, but the rookie kicker only had to kick a
24 yard field goal which he made easily and cut the Bolts lead to 14-13. For
Florence's ignorance, he is JACKASS #2!
Our last Charger Jackass is probably the most guilty of costing the team the
game. The Chargers had a 21-13 lead with four and a half minutes to go in the
game. The Patriots had a 4th down attempt from the Chargers 40 yard line that
they HAD to make to stay alive. Brady tossed a horrible pass that was
intercepted by safety Marlon McCree....game over right? WRONG! McCree,
like Parker and Florence before him, didn't use his head. Rather than go down
and end the play, McCree wanted to be a hero and gain more yards on his
return. Bad move. He was hit by Pats wide out Troy Brown and he fumbled
the ball, the Pats recovered and gained a first down. The Pats went on to
score a TD with a two point conversion to tie the game, and they ultimately
won the game from there. For his lack of judgement on the field, Marlon
McCree is JACKASS #3!
The San Diego Chargers were the best team in football all season long. They
had a 14-2 record, home field advantage throughout the playoffs and the MVP
of the league on their side. The Patriots came in to town and played a sloppy
game. The reason the Pats came out on top was three Jackasses on the
Chargers didn't use their heads. Eric Parker not only dropped three passes,
but he muffed a punt and didn't dive on it. Drayton Florence garnered an
unnecessary personal foul allowing the Pats a short field goal attempt.
Finally, Marlon McCree tried to be a hero on an interception that would have
won the game and he fumbled the ball and the Chargers season away along
with it. For all these actions, the Chargers trio earned the BSN JACKASS(es)
OF THE WEEK!
