BSN'S JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
|
This week’s winner has been a Jackass for a very long time. It was only a matter of
time before he was going to shoot off at the mouth and pick up the BSN weekly
award. This weeks’ winner is none other than loquacious former Dallas Cowboy
wide receiver, current ESPN NFL “analyst” Michael Irvin.
Ok, we all know he’s an idiot, but here’s why he is the Jackass of the week. When
speaking on the “Dan Patrick Show” on ESPN radio last week, Patrick began
speaking with Irvin about current Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo and his
style of play. Irivin’s retort to Patrick was "Romo doesn't look like that type of
athlete, But he is - I don't know - there's some brother down in that line somewhere
- [maybe] his great-great-great-grandma ran over in the hood or something went
down." Irvin was clearly implying that Romo had some African American heritage in
his blood and that was the only way he could be as good an athlete as he is. When
asked by Patrick if that was the only way, Irvin said, “That's not the only way, but it's
certainly one way," [Maybe] his great-great-great-great-great-great-grandma pulled
one of them studs up out of the barn [and said], 'Come on in here for a second.''
Why Irvin? Why does it have to be that way? Why does it have to be about race at
all? Irvin, who is African American feels that he can say something like that about
Romo, who is white, and that it’s ok and funny. Now, he didn’t pull a Michael
Richards a.k.a. ‘Cosmo Kramer’ by any stretch of the imagination, but if anything was
reaffirmed by the Hollywood incident, it’s that race is a sensitive issue and needs to
be left alone. Tony Romo is proving he is a phenomenal athlete regardless of his
skin color. Romo could be white, black green or blue and he’d be the same player
he is. Irvin is an idiot for trying to joke about it. Just leave it alone and talk about
the man’s skills. By making remarks like that you may be offending not only some
white people, but Tony Romo by insinuating he’s not who he really is. This country
has not progressed enough to the point where remarks like that are politically
correct and they never have been and probably never will be. As an individual who
works in the media, Michael Irvin needs to realize the error of his ways and keep
his mouth shut on issues such as that. Irvin was a guest on the Dan Patrick show to
discuss football and football related news, not to make jokes, funny or not about a
sensitive issue. We’ve seen broadcasters and media related individuals fired and
berated for less than that, so Irvin should consider himself fortunate nothing else
happened to him other than earning the BSN JACKASS OF THE WEEK!

BONUS BSN JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
|
We also have a bonus winner this week. Unfortunately for me, I am my own winner!
How could that possibly have occurred or why would I award a Jackass of the week to
myself? Last week, while watching USC annihilate Notre Dame with one of my buddies
and loyal BSN reader, I made the statement that USC would destroy UCLA and be in the
national title game against Ohio State. My buddy, who we’ll just call ‘M.D.’ told me that
UCLA was going to win the game and USC would not be in the championship. I believe
I called him a ‘Dumb Ass’ and said that would never happen. I then, ignorantly, went
on to say that if USC lost to UCLA I would be my own Jackass of the week. As we sit
here today, I can at least prove to everyone I’m a man of my word as I am my own BSN
JACKASS OF THE WEEK! Enjoy it ‘M.D.’, it won’t happen again!
