Gary Bettman is a Jackass

This week's winner made a boneheaded move. A move, when I really began to
think about it, made little to no sense. I'm still trying to comprehend the logic
behind it. If you're wondering who I'm talking about, it's NHL commissioner Gary
Bettman. What did Bettman do to win the honor? For some reason he scheduled
the NHL all star game to be played last WEDNESDAY night on the VS. network.
Why does that make him a Jackass? Well, let's see. The NHL is trying to rebound
from the work stoppage that cost them all of the 2004-2005 season and half of the
2005-2006 season. In order to do so, you would THINK that Bettman may want to
schedule the game that features your premiere stars on a WEEKEND on a network
that is viewed in every home in the country, such as NBC. It may just be me, but it
looks like Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby are turning out to be superstars in
the league, maybe people would want to see them? JUST MAYBE! Problem is,
only 474,000 people watched the game the other night, down 76% from the
previous NHL All Star game because a) it was on the VS. Network as opposed to
NBC and b) it was on a WEDNESDAY NIGHT as opposed to a SUNDAY AFTERNOON!
Here's just a crazy thought Bettman. Most sports fans die hard or not, watch most
of their sports on Sunday afternoon. What is the most popular game in the
country right now? Football.....usually played on Sunday afternoon. What WASN'T
played this past Sunday? Football. The NFL took the weekend off before the
Super Bowl. Crazy thought here, but MAYBE, just MAYBE this past Sunday would
have been a fantastic time to showcase the NHL. People only had basketball to
choose from and giving them another option would have been a great idea. I am
SURE more than 474,000 viewers would have tuned in ON ACCIDENT! Why not do
this Bettman? It's dumbfounding.
For not putting the NHL All-Star game on a household network during a weekend
day where no football is being played while his league is rebounding from a work
stoppage, Gary Bettman earned the BSN JACKASS OF THE WEEK!
